Over the course of six days, participants will live and work aboard a sailing yacht under the guidance of experienced staff and volunteers from the Ocean Youth Trust. This challenging expedition is not just about sailing; it’s an immersive experience that helps develop vital life skills. Participants will learn teamwork, leadership, and problem-solving, enhancing their ability to adapt and thrive in various situations.
A standout feature of this programme is the opportunity for participants to earn a nationally recognized certificate from the Royal Yachting Association. This certification not only adds to their personal portfolio but also stands as a testament to their hard work and newly acquired skills.
The programme welcomes nominations for young individuals aged 14 to 17. These candidates will be meticulously selected by the York Vikings Rotary to partake in a voyage that promises not only adventure but also personal growth and skill development.
Sail training requires participants to confront many demanding challenges, both physical and emotional. It is an activity that inspires self-confidence and the acceptance of personal responsibility, promotes an acceptance of others whatever their social or cultural backgrounds, and develops a willingness to take controlled risks.
Email Mick at mick.fox@yorkvikingsrotary.org to submit your application.
Rotarian Mick Fox will be conducting interviews for potential candidates in June 2024. This is your chance to demonstrate your enthusiasm and potential for personal development through this distinctive programme.
Do you have what it takes to navigate the challenges of the sea while growing personally and professionally? If you’re a young individual eager to push your limits and expand your horizons, we invite you to apply for the Rotary Youth Development under Sail programme.
