Celebrating 200 Years of Railway History with Münster Rotary

Members of York Vikings Rotary and our twinned club in Münster recently came together for a special weekend marking an important milestone in transport history 200 years since the world’s first passenger railway journey.

To honour this anniversary, the two clubs enjoyed a railway-themed programme filled with heritage, learning, and fellowship. Activities across the weekend included exploring local rail history, taking part in themed events, and sharing plenty of time together over meals and conversation. These moments offered a wonderful chance to deepen friendships, exchange perspectives, and reflect on how innovation has shaped our communities over two centuries.

The gathering also highlighted the enduring value of Rotary twinning. By connecting Rotarians from different countries, these exchanges foster understanding, broaden horizons, and strengthen the spirit of international cooperation. The shared celebration of this railway milestone was another reminder of the meaningful relationships that have developed between our clubs over the years.

We look forward to many more joint occasions with our friends from Münster as our partnership continues to thrive and grow.
