RYLA 2023: A Journey of Resilience, Leadership, and Community
Weathering the Storm
Despite challenging weather conditions, this year’s Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) was a resounding success. Hosted by the York Vikings Rotary Club and supported by 43 other clubs, the program welcomed 64 candidates for two weeks of transformative experiences.
More Than Just an Adventure
RYLA is not your typical outdoor adventure course. It’s a comprehensive leadership program that combines experiential learning with mentorship. Candidates engage in a series of indoor and outdoor tasks, all designed to hone skills like communication, planning, and problem-solving.
Keeping the Rotary Spirit Alive
This year, we’re taking steps to keep our RYLA graduates, or “RYLArians,” engaged with the Rotary community. Through regular emails and social media updates, we’ll share inspirational stories, volunteering opportunities, and updates on other Rotary initiatives like Rotaract and Youth Exchange.
Making a Difference
One of the highlights of the program was the “Making a Difference” evening, where candidates and Rotarians alike shared how they strive to live by the Rotary motto of “Service Above Self.” The young participants also took on the challenge to raise a minimum of £525 each for a cause close to their hearts.
A Heartfelt Thank You
A big shoutout to all the Rotary Clubs for their sponsorship, and to the mentors and volunteers who were the backbone of this event. Your hard work and dedication have not gone unnoticed.
Looking Ahead
Application forms for RYLA 2024 will be out in October, and we can’t wait to see what the next year brings.
Final Thoughts
RYLA is more than just a program; it’s a life-changing experience that equips young people with the skills and mindset to tackle future challenges. Let’s continue to invest in our youth, for they are the leaders of tomorrow.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to PIB Insurance for generously sponsoring this event and supporting our mission for positive community impact.
Yours in Rotary friendship,
The York Vikings rotary club
