York Vikings Rotary team up with Age UK and Tesco for Christmas Bingo Fun
It was grub up and eyes down for a full house this week as seniors from Acomb, Copmanthorpe and Dringhouses came together for a bumper tea and bingo session at the community room at Tesco’s Askham Bar store.
It is the third year running that York Vikings Rotary Club has teamed up with Age UK York to bring together older people in the community for a social afternoon in the run up to Christmas.
Members of the club provide transport and entertainment while Tesco provide the space and the impressive spread. “There is always a wonderful atmosphere, and it’s great to bring together folk from the neighbourhood to share good company, food and festive fun,” says Viking Rotary President Geoff Sykes. “So often older people in the community, many who live alone, are overlooked. Christmas is such a special time of togetherness, and we love to play our part.”
York Vikings Rotary supports a number of charities and good causes through the city and beyond and is always looking for new members, people who want to give back to the community.

The club currently has around forty members who each pledge ‘service above self’.
They meet at Pike Hills Golf Club each Tuesday at 7.30pm and provide practical and financial support to charities and good causes across the region.
Others they support include homeless charity SASH and HOPING street kitchen in York.
